Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dates, chopped fine
  • 6 cups onions, sliced thin
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. Date sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 5 cups beef stock
  • 1 dash hot sauce
  • 1 tsp. Worchestershire
  • 1/2 tsp. ground thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 6 slices of cheese
  • 6 slices French Bread

 

Instructions

  1. Slice French Bread into 1.5 inch slices.  Place on sheet pan.  Dry out in oven at 275 degrees.
  2. In large stock pot, saute onions, butter and salt over medium heat for 35 minutes.
  3. Add stock, hot sauce, Worchestershire, thyme and bay leaf.  Bring to a boil, simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Ladle beef and onion soupd over French bread in oven proof bowls, top with cheese.  Broil 3-5 minutes.
